Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Assistant Director for Data Systems has the primary responsibility for designing and overseeing the collection, organization, utilization and maintenance of data in ways that inform and support the missions of the School of Music. The position works across the School to identify, implement and support data systems changes that increase capacity, efficiency and equity, and deploys new data uses in ways that align with SOM & UMD policies, procedures and strategic vision. The Assistant Director oversees the existing CRM- Slate – maintaining and updating for current and future uses. Working with School of Music administrators, the position uses accurate data drawn from current and novel data sources to inform and support data-driven decision-making, i.e. supporting admissions and enrollment decisions through the analysis of historic trends, along with modeling probable future outcomes from various strategies. The Assistant Director communicates relevant information to faculty, staff, alumni, donors and other stakeholders and helps to ensure that policy/procedural documents are current. The position serves also as a data researcher for all SOM reporting and ensures that all reporting is completed in a timely manner.

- A minimum of 5 years of specific experience with database/statistical software, tools and information retrieval methods, such as: SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Visual Analytics, Qualtrics, Google Looker Studio, Slate, Formstack, Stata, Workday, Tableau, Denodo, and SQL Developer.
- Demonstrated experience with SQL and managing relational databases.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and Google Sheets.
- Proficiency in various programming and reporting languages including HTML, Java, and Liquid Markup.
- Experience using data visualization to effectively and efficiently convey complex statistical concepts to lay audiences including administrators, faculty, and other decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Excellent planning analytical, problem solving, customer satisfaction, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions, direct complex projects, meet deadlines, track accomplishments and meet established goals and objectives.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty and staff who have widely varying understandings.
- Skill in using data systems.
This position is only open to current employees within the University System of Maryland system.
Preferences:
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience in a Higher Education/Academic/Performing Arts environment.
- Knowledge of postsecondary arts and education demography, diversity, access and equity.
- Knowledge of federal, state and university policies and procedures related to data management and reporting.
